Bill Harper ~~ Bio

Bill J Harper, AIFD, AAF, FAM is one of the floral industry's most accomplished designers, educators, consultants and lecturers.  His love an appreciation of nature was cultivated on his family's farm in rural Missouri, where he lives today.

Bill's career has placed him in many roles, including floral artist and visual merchandiser.  His designs have been featured in magazines and books, both nationally and internationally, over the past three decades.  He is one of six American designers featured in the millennium edition of World Flower Artists 2 (2000), and he has been a frequent contributor to Florists' Review magazine for more than 25 years.

As a teacher, Bill has traveled extensively throughout the Unites States, Europe and Asia conducting schools, workshops and exhibitions.  As a product designer-development consultant, he traveled to China, making significant contributions in the innovation of permanent botanicals, floral decor and accessories.

Bill was inducted into the American Institute of Floral Designers (AIFD) in 1977.  Since then, he has served the organization in many ways including national president(1991-1992), membership chair (1984-1988), and National Symposium chair (1984,2003,2009).  In 1996, Bill was presented the Distinguished Service Award to AIFD and honored as a fellow of the organization.  Bill is also a member of the American Academy of Floriculture(AAF) and the Floral Academy of Missouri(FAM).

Additional honors include designing at the White House and for three presidential inaugrations as well as for the rededication of the Statue of Liberty (1986).  Bill also was the first runner-up in the 1974 FTD America's Cup design competition.

Bill's extensive experience and design acumen have been enhanced by his love of ART and horticulture.  Tirelessly inquisitive, Bill sees ordinary objects in the most extraordinary ways.  Innovation is his trademark.

The Balance of Floral Art and Mechanics

October 10 & 11, 2013


Located in the Flower Classroom  Historic Hobbs Building ~ Kansas City


This class presents an opportunity to explore " Outside the Box" the eclectic styles in today's design arena, Creare Floral ART that showcases your creative personality, Express your inner Design Thoughts, feelings and extend them beyond the boundaries to Explore High Tech Design Style.

Christina and Bill bring a unique blend of design talent and instruction skills to this class.  Their combined years 75+ in the floral industry, ART & Horticulture give them a creative edge in the Design World.  They have collaborated for over 25 years on design projects, teaching, consulting, international workshops, & product development.  Their passion is for FLORAL DESIGN and Teaching.

Class Dates:  October 10th & 11th   9-5pm Thursday/10th    9-11pm Friday/11th

Designs created will be placed on display for the public open house ART Studio's located in the Historic Hobbs Building, where the Flower Classroom is located.  Class fee includes all products to construct your ART & catered lunch.  After the Hobbs Building Open Studio's Friday evening your design can be removed and taken with you.  The ART experience within the Hobbs is a Creative Energy....An ART destination in Kansas City.
